SPANISH LACE PATTERN Cranberry Opalescent Glass c.1898~1903
$685 |

| The 'Opaline Brocade' glass pattern was first shown in a Pottery Gazette ad in 1897 in Walsh, England. One year later, Northwood Glass had copied and produced the pattern at their Indiana PA factory, advertising it in their 1898 catalogue as 'Brocade'. It would soon be known by it's most recognizable name, 'Spanish Lace' (as well as 'Opaline Brocade' and 'Queen's Lace'). Notice that this particular piece was made at Northwood's Indiana PA factory, not at their Wheeling factory. This is an extremely desirable, yet rare, Northwood pattern to collect, especially in the cranberry, aka ruby, color. The metal rim, probably pewter, adds to the scarcity of this piece. |
